President of SEMI Americas. SEMI has a Vision …July 2nd, 2019 by Dave Anderson
Over the past several years, SEMI took significant steps on the path to fulfilling its vision to address the entire electronic product chain from design through manufacturing. We’re a step closer to fulfilling this vision as ES Design West debuts next week (July 9-11) as a co-located SEMICON West event at San Francisco’s Moscone Center South Hall. ES Design West is currently the only North American event to address commercial achievements of the electronic system and semiconductor design and forward-looking, system-centric design approaches. It will promote and highlight how the technology is being applied across the electronic product design, manufacturing and supply chain. This achievement follows our 2018 announcement that the Electronic System Design (ESD) Alliance became a SEMI Strategic Association Partner along with FlexTech, MSIG (MEMS and Sensors) and the Fab Owner’s Alliance. SEMI has expanded its footprint across the semiconductor design and supply chain and recognized that design is a key foundational element. Similarly, the ESD Alliance acknowledged that although EDA is fundamental to design, there are many other elements including semiconductor IP, embedded software, design services that are required to the design ecosystem and enable the electronic product chain. Perhaps Ajit Manocha, president and CEO of SEMI, said it best when the agreement with the ESD Alliance was announced. “Design is the very foundation of semiconductor innovation and manufacturing, and the ESD Alliance complements SEMI’s existing membership in bringing smarter, faster, more powerful, and more affordable electronic products to more people every day.” Combined, SEMI as a global organization and platform helps the ESD Alliance extend its reach and activities beyond North America, just as SEMI benefits from direct engagement with the ESD Alliance’s design ecosystem expertise. Big things come from a vision, and SEMI is well on its way to accomplishing its vision to connect the electronic system and semiconductor design with the electronic product manufacturing and supply chain thanks to the ESD Alliance. More on ES Design West ES Design West will be a showplace of companies that span the entire electronic system design ecosystem. They are ANSYS, Arm, Blue Pearl, Breker Verification Systems, Cadence Design Systems, CAST, ChipEstimate, ClioSoft, Computer Products Corporation and Coventor, a LAM Research Company. Also, Dell/EMC, Empryrean Software, Mentor, a Siemens Business, Methodics, OneSpin Solutions, Real Intent, Rescale, Silvaco, SmartDV, Sourcery Ltd., and Synopsys. IBM will be in ES Design West area as well (booth #2327) with an exhibit of a life-size model of an IBM Q quantum computer, which showcases quantum computing architecture built upon decades of semiconductor industry advances. The exhibit will also include demonstrations of how the IBM Q Experience quantum cloud services platform and Qiskit, an open source quantum software framework, are used to program and experiment with real IBM Q systems. Markets that soon may claim staggering leaps from a quantum computational capacity span from automotive to medical, financial and energy. Six “Meet the Experts” sessions in the SMART Design Pavilion located on the ES Design West exhibit floor and one session at the TechTALK Stage South acknowledge the range of commercial achievements of electronic system design. Program details, exhibitor, networking and registration information can be found at the ES Design West website. Follow ES Design West on Twitter: #ESDesignWest The HOT Party Also debuting at SEMICON West is the Heart of Technology (HOT) fundraising party Tuesday, July 9, at the John Colins Lounge in San Francisco from 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. ES Design West and SEMICON West badge holders will be admitted with a suggested minimum tax-deductible $20 donation. This year’s beneficiary is the SEMI Foundation supporting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and career awareness in high technology. All proceeds from the event will be contributed to the SEMI Foundation. Sponsored by Jim Hogan, Silicon Valley venture capitalist and software executive, it has a host of co-sponsors. They are Big Kahuna Productions, Breker, Burr & Forman, LLP, ESD Alliance, eSilicon, Harvest Management Partners, LLC, Methodics, Mod Marketing, OneSpin Solutions, Pulsic, Sage Design Automation, SEMI and Silvaco. |
