Designer and IP track submissions are due Tuesday, January 24. These sessions have been among the most vibrant DAC elements in recent years based on attendance and anecdotal feedback. Chuck Alpert, my predecessor as DAC chair, explained why in a post last year: “Many of these technologists come for the Designer/IP track, a marketing-free zone aimed squarely at practitioners.” The good news is that submitting is easy. All you need to do is bang out 100 words and six slides. You can do this, people!
More good news is the excellent industry pros in charge of these tracks.
The Designer Track committee chair is Cadence’s Zhuo Li. Zhuo is joined by systems chair, Qualcomm/NXP’s Robert Oshana; silicon chair Steve Padnos, an industry veteran who is now IT director at Big Sky Communications; and verification chair, Mentor’s Harry Foster. This murderer’s row of expertise bodes well for the conference this year. And the fact that three of the four are based in Texas means you can ask them for help navigating both local culture and the DAC submissions process. (Hint: if you don’t know what it means when someone says IC design is like putting socks on a rooster, ask Zhuo or one of his fellow Texans.) The IP track committee is just as strong. Chair Claude Moughanni, at Lattice Semiconductor here in the Valley, has a team that stretches from the Bay Area to Marseille, France, and includes representation from the likes of ARM, Intel, Samsung and more. (See all the names and affiliations here.) Reading through the affiliations on Claude’s list is a reminder that DAC couldn’t happen without volunteers and support from around the industry. And we are committed to give back more than we take. A good example is the work of the industry liaison committee (ILC), led by S2C’s VP of marketing, Rob Van Blommestein. The 2017 ILC met for the first time last month at the Synopsys headquarters in Mountain View. Among the top agenda items was how logistics can be better managed and implemented to allow exhibitors to focus on adding more value to attendees in their booths. Enjoy the holiday season. All I want for Christmas is loads of stellar Designer and IP track submissions for the DAC executive committee to review in the New Year! That would make me me happy as a hog in mud. (I think that’s more Texas-speak but I’ll have to check with one of the Austinites to be sure.) |
