Understanding Export Regulations with Larry Disenhof

August 17th, 2021 by Bob Smith, Executive Director

Larry Disenhof

We’re switching gears after the two-part, work-from-home panel series we co-hosted with Accellera to focus on export compliance with Larry Disenhof, Chair of our Export Committee and Group Director in Cadence’s Government and Trade Compliance Group.

As Larry will explain, the world of export compliance is increasingly complex and perplexing. During “Understanding Export Regulations Affecting the Electronic System Design Ecosystem” webcast Wednesday, September 15, he will offer his perspective and insight into today’s export climate and offer ways to navigate export regulations.

Larry is an expert with more than 20 years of experience representing the electronic system design ecosystem to export administration agencies. His unique position makes him well qualified to provide historical context, understanding of current controls and potential new controls affecting electronic system design software and technologies.

A bit about our Export Committee is in order here. Under Larry’s leadership, the Export Committee is a valued resource for our members. The committee represents the electronic system design ecosystem in Washington, D.C., with agencies overseeing export regulations and other regulatory organizations. Its goal is to educate government agencies about our products and how they are classified in the Commerce Control List to ensure the correct level of export controls are applied.

The export Committee also serves to educate our members on export and other government regulatory issues affecting our industry and each company’s ability to sell and support its products. In fact, one member company turned to Larry for help on understanding the U.S. export restrictions. He responded with a long, well-organized and savvy answer explaining best practices in dealing with export rules and compliance. While Larry cannot offer legal advice, he can provide the context needed to help assess where to focus attention when reading the regulations. “This is not something simple and it changes daily,” said the member company’s CEO. Someone traces the changes every day and tracks the guidelines. It’s as complex as taxes.” As he pointed out, the level of detail of export rules and regulations is massive.

Attendees can expect the same level of detail from Larry during the webcast. He will present up-to-the-minute and easily understood information about the changeable export landscape. We’ll leave plenty of time at the end for questions.

“Understanding Export Regulations Affecting the Electronic System Design Ecosystem” will be held Wednesday, September 15, from 9am to 10am PDT. Complimentary registration is offered to members. The fee for non-members is $35. The link can be found at: https://bit.ly/3AISTlv

As for our work-from-home panels, they were both interesting a well attended. If you missed one or the other or both, you are in luck. They were recorded and are available. Visit our Media Library for the recordings.
