Last week’s news that the electronic system design industry revenue increased by more than $1 billion in 2020 marks a new milestone for our ecosystem. It is also the first report from our renamed Electronic Design Market Data (EDMD), formerly known as the Market Statistics Service (MSS). A quick recap of the news release highlights some impressive numbers. For example, revenue increased 15.4% in Q4 2020 to $3,031.5 million, compared to $2,626.3 million in Q4 2019, representing only the fourth time since 2011 that year-over-year growth exceeded 15%. The four-quarter moving average that compares the most recent four quarters to the prior four quarters, rose by 11.6%, the highest annual growth since 2011 and the second highest in the last 14 years. For more details, check out the news release, “ESD Alliance Reports Strong Electronic System Design Industry Revenue Growth for Q4 2020.” With such positive news, I expect this year’s CEO Outlook to be especially informative, though don’t expect any of our panelists to comment directly on revenue or forecasts. Instead, they will offer their insights on the state of the Electronic System Design industry along with their views of the outlook for the coming year.
Ed Sperling, Editor-in-Chief of Semiconductor Engineering, will moderate this year’s panel of eight CEOs, all of whom are members of the ESD Alliance Governing Council, Tuesday, May 18, from 2-3pm PDT. At this meeting, we will recap the past year, talk about what we have planned for the year ahead and announce the election of our new Governing Council for the 2021-2023 term.
