IP Design Challenge: efabless & X-FAB promote Ingenuity, February deadline

December 7th, 2016 by Peggy Aycinena

If you’re a designer looking for a rare opportunity to shine, look no further
. The folks at Erfurt-based X-FAB and Silicon Valley-based efabless hope to “further ingenuity” by extending a challenge to anyone in the world willing to accept it.

What they’re looking for are IP designs applicable to an ultra-low power voltage reference, and the companies are willing to make it worth your while.

If your design is one of the top three selected, you’ll receive a monetary award and your IP will be made available to a global customer base through both X-FAB’s IP web portal and efabless’ online marketplace.

Best of all – you’ll hold onto all rights for your submission.

And “it is open to all engineers – from students right through to seasoned industry veterans – thus staying true to efabless’ philosophy of democratizing the design process,” per Mohamed Kassem, co-founder and CTO of efabless.

Indeed, a pretty rare opportunity.

“First of its kind,” per the Press Release.

“The [design challenge] will simultaneously focus on encouraging greater design creativity and also maximizing execution quality in line with the performance requirements that have been set, with the result fundamentally outcome-based with reference to target specifications.”

Ulrich Bretthauer, Manager of Industrial & Medical Solutions at X-FAB, notes: “The cooperation of our two companies on this design challenge will be an effective means by which to highlight the pioneering foundry and design services we respectively specialize in.”

As great as all of this is, it’s important to take note of three additional factoids in the Press Release.

* The IP will be developed in X-FAB’s 350-nanometer mixed-signal process with designers being granted access to the required models, design files and technical documentation.

* Entries for the design challenge will only be accepted up to 20 February 2017, so get going.
