ESD Alliance Celebrates November with Phil Kaufman Award Dinner, SMART Design at SEMICON Europa

November’s a month of celebrations brought to the semiconductor industry by the ESD Alliance.

It starts with the Phil Kaufman Award Ceremony and Dinner, an evening honoring the 25th award recipient Dr. Mary Jane Irwin Thursday, November 7, from 6:30pm until 9:30pm at The GlassHouse in San Jose, Calif.

Janie, as she is known throughout the electronic system design ecosystem, is the first woman recipient of the Phil Kaufman Award. Noted for her contributions to EDA via her technical efforts, service to the community and leadership, she is the Evan Pugh Professor and A. Robert Noll Chair Emeritus in Engineering in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Penn State.

The ESD Alliance and IEEE CEDA sponsor the award annually to honor individuals like Janie who have had a demonstrable impact on the field of electronic system design through technology innovations, education/mentoring, or business or industry leadership. SMART Design Heads to SEMICON Europa

We’re in Munich, Germany, the following week where we kick off SMART Design, the first system-centric series showcasing advances in electronic system design to be held at SEMICON Europa. SMART Design’s program, “Designing Electronic Systems for Future Applications,” will feature presentations and a panel discussion highlighting how advances in electronic system design are enabling emerging and future applications.

A list of familiar ESD Alliance member companies dot the program, including Silvaco and Minima Processor. Jim Hogan, managing partner of Vista Ventures, moderates “The Risk of Obsolete Design and Verification Environments in the RISC-V Era,” featuring more ESD Alliance member companies such as Breker, Cadence, Mentor, a Siemens Business, OneSpin and Silvaco. Presentations about design in the cloud will be presented by Amazon Web Services and OnScale. Mycronic AB and Cobham Advanced Electronics Solutions are also on the program.

SEMICON Europa will begin Tuesday, November 12, through Friday, November 15, at Messe München in Munich, Germany. SMART Design is scheduled for Thursday, November 14, from 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. in TechARENA 1, Hall B1. A networking hour hosted by the ESD Alliance and SEMI immediately follows.S

Also debuting this year at SEMICON Europa is the SMART Transportation Forum led by SEMI’s Global Automotive Advisory Council (GAAC) with presentations from the design, semiconductor equipment and materials suppliers and automotive OEM communities. The SMART Transportation Forum, “Connected-to-Everything Automated Mobility,” will be held Tuesday, November 12, from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in Room 14C at International Congress Center Munich. It’s worth noting that Cadence, Mentor and Synopsys are members of GAAC.
