We’re an industry filled with exceptional individuals, 21 of whom have been singled out and heralded by being recipients of the Phil Kaufman Award for Distinguished Contributions to Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Award since it was established in 1994. It’s time once again to consider a deserving individual for this prestigious award presented yearly by the EDA Consortium (EDAC) and the IEEE Council on EDA (CEDA). Nominations are open and will be accepted until Thursday, June 30. As you know, Dr. Walden (Wally) C. Rhines, chairman and chief executive officer of Mentor Graphics Corporation, was the recipient of the 2015 award. He was honored for growing the EDA and IC design industries through his efforts as a leading voice of EDA and for pioneering the evolution of IC design to SoC design. The late Phil Kaufman (1942-1992) himself was an exceptional visionary. His contributions are the stuff of legend. He firmly established silicon compilation, the forerunner to synthesis, into commercial software and was president of Quickturn, a hardware emulation vendor, at the time of his death. Hardware emulation today is the foundation for almost all verification strategies. For the complete list of award recipients, visit: http://bit.ly/20IyRn1 Please take a good look around you. I’m sure you’ll recognize at least one outstanding contributor to our industry. Consider nominating her or him for the award that recognizes individuals whose contributions have made a significant impact within EDA in business, industry direction, promotion, technology and engineering, educational or mentoring. Impartiality is provided to all nominees, without regard to race, gender, age or national origin. Once again, nominations will be accepted until Thursday, June 30. You or your company need not be a member of EDAC or CEDA to nominate a deserving individual. To download the 2016 nomination form, go to: http://bit.ly/1RaaZTp Join us During DVCon A reminder to join us Tuesday evening, March 1, for the next “Crossing the Chasm: From Technology to Valuable Enterprise.” Jim Hogan will chat with Dr. Ajoy Bose, former chairman, president and CEO of Atrenta, about how Atrenta successfully crossed the chasm, moving from technology company to valuable enterprise acquired by Synopsys. It starts at 6 p.m., including food and drink. The discussion, which should be lively and informative, will begin at 7 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. The evening is open free of charge to all EDAC member companies and registered DVCon attendees. Others are invited to attend for a fee of $40. To register, go to: http://conta.cc/1PJeGjE Events like this one would not be possible without Steve Pollock, the long-time chair of the Emerging Companies Committee and vice president of marketing and sales at Semi-Pac Inc. Paul Cohen, EDAC’s member of the Technical Staff, and Julie Rogers, director of Marketing and Operations, should be singled out for their efforts, as well as MP Associates, organizers of DVCon. Become Part of EDAC As I’ve mentioned in previous blogs, EDAC welcomes all EDA and IP vendors to join the organization “Where Electronics Begins.” For more information about EDAC and how to become a member, contact me at bob.smith@edac.org or visit www.edac.org |
