DesignCon Panel On Next – Gen Engineering has our young engineers voicing their opinion on the future of engineering

March 4th, 2015 by Shachi Nandan Kakkar

DesignCon, held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, is one of the biggest annual conference on product technologies, design methodologies, and EDA software, with a focus on system-on-chip design.

So, kudos to them for organizing a Next Gen panel of young engineers, many of whom are still in school or college. The engineers on this panel, ranging from age 13 and up, are designing a brighter and stronger industry, already making strides at young ages, creating devices like inexpensive braille printers and meeting with the President of the United States by White House invitation.

Traveling from as far as Singapore to attend DesignCon, these determined young engineers discussed what opportunities and challenges they see ahead for engineering, why they are exploring careers in engineering, and their general views of the future of engineering design, from what it means to be a “maker” to the changing role of engineering in everyday life and more.

These young engineers are focusing on making useful future products which can make our tasks easy. They are enthusiastic about our future and do not mind being called nerds or geeks. Rather, they think that it is fashionable to be referred in those terms. They see a bright future in choosing engineering as a profession.

The DesignCon panel was chaired by Suzanne Deffree, Exec Community Editor, EDN, who inspires our youngsters to consider engineering as a fun and a passionate profession.

4 panelists infused their youthful energy into the panel discussion. Rick Merritt of eetimes covered the panel discussion in his “16 Takeaways from DesignCon 2015” under the heading “The kids are alright”.
