Extended Commitment

Do you happen to have more time on your hands? There are two possible gigs for you that you can you can take. The Peace Corps which you get to serve abroad and the AmeriCorps program which you can serve domestically.

The Peace Corps was established under President John F Kennedy and it has sent over 200,000 Americans abroad to serve in nearly 140 countries in industries such as agribusiness, engineering, and teaching English in high demand areas. Before deployment, they undergo a 3 months training that will assist navigate the challenges that come with the job. The Peace Corps volunteers get a lot of perks such as living allowances, dental benefits, medical, job replacement support, vacation time, student loan help and compare and contrast essay topics for college students

If you prefer being stateside, then AmeriCorps is for you. It’s voluntary work focuses on public safety, education and the environment, all these can be fulfilling and vacancies are available from tutoring, building homes, restoring parks, teaching computer skills, responding to disasters and assisting crime victims.

Volunteer Vacations

Ever thought of voluntary work while on vacation? You can do volunteer while visiting another country. You might have to pay for your own air ticket and also chip in when it comes to building material. This is the true test for volunteers as it requires both your money and strength. It is advisable that if you choose to do this kind of voluntary work, you should be in good health as you will do manual labor for long hours, it will be the hardest that you have ever worked before.

One of the places to turn to for this is Globe Aware, they have one-week voluntary work programs around the world and it would be great if you and your friends would tag along to make it a much more fun experience. Their rates range from $1200 per person on wards, plus your airfare.

Helping Hands

Most students want to volunteer but do not seem to get the time out of their busy schedules. However, this has now changed as there is the United Nations Volunteers. With this, you can volunteer virtually. Statistics have indicated that over 50% of higher education students want to volunteer in one way or another, that’s why you’ll find a UN Volunteers club or association in most colleges.

Say you wanted to volunteer to teach something specific, you can do that by creating the syllabus and emailing to the people that are on the ground and they, in turn, can teach the students using your content. You can also offer essay writing services or other written works. You will be able to reach thousands of people at the same time.

Voluntary work is something exciting that you can do. As a student, you want to get the right work that fits your interests and schedule and we hope that the examples we have given you are more than enough to get you going.
