EDACafe Industry Predictions for 2022 – Autotalks

January 13th, 2022 by Industry Experts

In 2021, we witnessed an increase in the number of road fatalities in the US. Vehicles are getting safer, embedding more safety sensors, and yet, more people are losing their dear ones on the roads. In order to increase road safety, as many vehicles should be equipped with V2X, as early as possible.

Indeed, V2X deployment is continuing to move forward toward mass deployment. In 2021, V2X was added to the production programs of most OEMs, and the rest will soon follow.

Before Autotalks, Onn developed VLSI and communication systems and handled standardization and market development. Onn was working for an elite R&D unit in IDF, Texas Instruments, and Passave (acquired by PMC-Sierra).

The focus of V2X research and development is shifting towards the future capabilities of V2X. The first shift being made is using V2X to protect non-car-occupants, ie pedestrians, cyclists, etc. The majority of road fatalities are outside the vehicles. V2X expansion outside the vehicle is beginning with two-wheelers: motorcycles, eBikes, and eScooters. In 2022, more pilots will validate the micro-mobility safety use-cases, preparing the ground for a launch of V2X in micro-mobility from 2023/4. The safety enhancement potential is huge considering the challenge of drivers and non-V2X vehicle sensors to detect all road users, which are small, fast-moving, and in many cases, hidden from sight.

The second shift we will see is the progress of the development of advanced V2X capabilities, called Day2 V2X. With the advanced capability of cooperative perception, vehicles will share information of objects detected by their sensors. The ability to detect all road users, including those without V2X, will dramatically increase accident-prevention capabilities. The value of Day2 V2X is already being realized by OEMs, which are accelerating their deployment plans. Soon after the initial V2X deployment, we will see vehicles with these advanced V2X capabilities on the roads.

Onn Haran is CTO and co-founder of Autotalks, which enables the vehicle-to-vehicle communication revolution. Autotalks offers the market-leading V2X solution, heading toward mass-market. With Onn’s vision, Autotalks created an industry-recognized technological lead.
