Wednesday night, at the outset of the EDAC Jim Hogan/Joe Costello event, the DAC 2013 General Chair, Synopsys’ Yervant Zorian, took the stage to present a plethora of reasons why you should be coming to DAC in Austin in June. Here’s his list in the order in which it was presented: No. 7 – When the DAC Executive Committee went looking for Austin-based EDA folks to assist in connecting the design community in Texas to the folks who plan DAC, the EC expected 3 or 4 persons to respond. Instead, over 35 people raised their hands and hence the Austin-based DAC committee is huge and has done a great job. No. 6 – This year is the 50th DAC, a testament to the long-term technical, social, and networking impact of the conference. No. 5 – If the traditional 3 keynotes at DAC have been great, here in 2013 the DAC EC is doubling the fun. This year there will be 6 keynotes for your viewing pleasure, including presentations from Freescale, National Instruments, Samsung, and Qualcomm. No. 4 – This year’s Phil Kaufman Award will be presented to UCB’s Chenming Hu at the Sunday night opening reception. No. 3 – A new type of visionary ‘keynote’ will be presented in Austin: SKY Talks [Short KeYnotes] will showcase next-gen ideas that make it exciting for technologists to show up for work. Presenters will include IBM, DARPA, NVIDIA, D.E. Shaw, TI, and Thales. No. 2 – Wednesday night will include an Awards Banquet honoring the many people who have contributed decades of time to making the Design Automation Conference a reality. No. 1 – The Monday night Conference Party will be an authentic Western blow-out at the legendary Austin City Limits. Two bands will be playing – a good band and a not-so-good band, the latter being Jim Hogan’s. Jim himself described his band that way, sitting on stage near the podium where Zorian was extending his invitation to the assembled masses sitting in the Cadence auditorium. Jim’s self-effacing eval got a great laugh from the audience, but no doubt his band will be welcomed wholeheartedly by the Party Animals that comprise the EDA groupies who flock to DAC. See you there! ********************** Tags: Austin City Limits, DAC 2013, EDAC, Jim Hogan, Joe Costello, SKY Talks, Yervant Zorian One Response to “DAC 2013: Austin City Limits” |
