Great Success for China Silvaco UseRs Global Event (SURGE) in Shanghai

August 5th, 2019 by Graham Bell

Audience

The Silvaco SURGE 2019 Global User Conference was successfully held on July 19, 2019 at the Kerry Hotel in Pudong, Shanghai! More than 200 guests from panel display, semiconductor product design and manufacturing, semiconductor industry associations, universities and research institutes attended the conference. The guests actively shared industry trends and conducted face-to-face technical exchanges with technical experts from Silvaco's US headquarters, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Shanghai to discuss innovative applications of semiconductor technology from Atoms to Systems. Silvaco Interim CEO Babak Taheri said: “These events open up important conversations with industry leaders and peers, highlight smart solutions to real-world challenges, and provide insight into current and future trends.”
SURGE China 2019 had 21 topic presentations in three session covering the topics of Display, IC / IP, and Foundry, and two keynote talks.

Ceremony

Mr. Iliya Pesic, Chairman of Silvaco, invited the guests to witness the inauguration ceremony of the SILVACO-Shanghai Jiaotong University Semiconductor and Display Device Teaching Joint Laboratory with Professor Xiaojun Guo
representing the University.  Silvcao software will be widely used in teaching and research, and used by Shanghai Jiaotong University to train more and better talent for the China semiconductor industry.

Keynote 1

Thomas F. Blaesi, Vice-President, Global Marketing gave the first keynote address. He discussed how new SoCs devices are adopting AI/ML technology which drive new memory architectures and photonic interfaces. Because of single nanometer process nodes, specialized new IPs require analysis down to the nanometer and atomic levels. He addressed the span from architecture to device physics, design technology co-optimization (DTCO) using TCAD solutions, and how with proven design IPs are needed for next-generation SoC design.

Keynote 2

The second keynote by Stephen Fairbanks, CTO, Certus Semiconductor discussed how, with new process technologies, IC I/O interfaces have become more complex. Companies need more features in a single product, more voltage domains, more power capabilities and how IOs serve multi-role purposes. He presented how optimizations for power, performance and area to meet, packaging, cost, and product requirements are needed.

Winner

At the end of the day long event several prizes were awarded.  Picture above is Ilya Pesic with one of the winners.

“We are very pleased with our third annual Users’ Group event held in Shanghai,” said Sharon Fang, General Manager, Silvaco China. “The Interest of the attendees to our presentations was excellent and we enjoyed many useful discussions afterwards.  Silvaco is committed to the expanding semiconductor IC market in China. Our annual update to our customers and partners about Silvaco’s leading technological solutions complements the excellent support from our local sales and technical teams. We look forward to offering more SURGE events in the future.”
