Rambus Introduces DDR5 Client Clock Driver, Paving the Way for High-Performance Laptops and Desktops

Friday, September 6th, 2024

In a significant step forward for consumer computing, Rambus has announced its latest innovation in memory interface technology: the DDR5 Client Clock Driver. This product marks the company’s first foray into chips for client DIMMs (Dual In-Line Memory Modules), which are critical components in desktop computers and laptops. With the rise of compute-intensive applications like AI and gaming, the DDR5 Client Clock Driver is poised to address the ever-growing demand for high-speed memory, particularly as data transfer rates reach unprecedented levels.

In an interview with John Eble, VP of Product Marketing at Rambus, he elaborated on the importance of the DDR5 Client Clock Driver and how it reflects the company’s commitment to advancing memory interface solutions. “The DDR5 Client Clock Driver is a signal integrity timing enhancement chip that goes onto client DIMMs, and it plays a vital role in improving performance in devices like desktops and notebooks,” Eble said.

This announcement follows Rambus’ longstanding success in the server space, where they have delivered chipsets aimed at improving signal and power integrity. The new DDR5 Client Clock Driver brings this expertise to consumer markets, supporting high-speed memory modules that will reach up to 7200 megatransfers per second (MT/s).
