Intel and Arm Join Forces to Empower Startups with the Emerging Business Initiative

April 1st, 2024 by Sanjay Gangal

In an unprecedented move, Intel and Arm have announced the creation of the Emerging Business Initiative, a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at bolstering the startup ecosystem. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the companies’ commitment to fostering innovation and supporting the next wave of technological advancement.

The Birth of the Emerging Business Initiative

The partnership was solidified through a memorandum of understanding, establishing the framework of the Emerging Business Initiative. This collaboration is a direct extension of the April 2023 multigeneration agreement between Intel and Arm, designed to empower chip designers to create cutting-edge, low-power compute system-on-chips (SoCs) utilizing the Intel 18A process technology.

Announced at the Intel Foundry Direct Connect event in San Jose, California, the initiative aims to provide startups with the necessary intellectual property (IP), manufacturing support, and financial resources. The focus is on encouraging the development of innovative devices and servers powered by Arm-based SoCs and manufactured by Intel Foundry, setting a new benchmark for industry collaboration.

The Vision Behind the Collaboration

Stuart Pann, Intel’s senior vice president and general manager of Foundry Services, emphasized the shared belief between Intel Foundry and Arm that technology should be universally beneficial. He highlighted the critical role startups play in realizing the potential of transformative technologies like AI, stating, “The Emerging Business Initiative provides a path for new companies to leverage leading-edge Arm-based SoCs and Intel Foundry’s global manufacturing capabilities to make their ideas real.”

This collaboration comes at a time when AI is reshaping every facet of human work and life, presenting new companies with unprecedented opportunities to innovate. Just as mobile and cloud computing catalyzed waves of innovation, the AI era promises a fertile ground for startups to explore new business models and deliver unparalleled value to users.

A Growing Partnership

The Emerging Business Initiative is a testament to the strengthening relationship between Intel Foundry and Arm, which has been building over years through various collaborations aimed at enriching the ecosystem. Notably, in August 2023, the companies announced an agreement to fast-track the development and deployment of Arm-based SoCs using Intel’s 10-nanometer process technology.

Rene Haas, CEO of Arm, reflected on the importance of this collaboration, saying, “AI growth depends on giant leaps in compute, efficiency, and scalability, and our industry must create on-ramps for the startup community to share in these advancements.” He further emphasized that the Emerging Business Initiative paves the way for the next generation of innovators to bring their ideas to fruition, driving the future of technological breakthroughs.

Empowering the Future

The Intel-Arm partnership through the Emerging Business Initiative is more than just a collaboration; it’s a bridge to the future. By opening up access to advanced technologies and support, Intel and Arm are not only empowering startups but are also laying the groundwork for a more innovative, efficient, and scalable technological landscape. As the initiative unfolds, the tech world eagerly anticipates the new horizons that will be unlocked by the next wave of entrepreneurs and innovators.
