Predictions 2013 – Warnac the Magnificent has spoken

January 22nd, 2013 by Ed Lee

Remember Carnac the Magnificent from The Tonight Show?  Well, his son, Warnac the Magnificent, aka Warren Savage, will divine the future of the IP industry this week in our blog.    Warren is founder and CEO of IPextreme.

In 2013, semiconductor companies will continue to increase their efficiency: not by reducing headcount, but rather by doing a much better job of inventorying, analyzing, and leveraging their internal IP assets. It has been said that the standalone value of the IP within most semiconductor companies exceeds the market cap of the company as a whole. Companies—at least the forward-looking ones—will begin acting on that. As the Hostess board of directors recently learned (the hard way), the recipes for Twinkies, Ho Hos, and Ding Dongs are worth far more than the factories in which they were made. Those iconic brand treats are more valuable than the act of baking them. Semiconductor companies and their investors will (indeed, must) begin to find a way to sell their cake and eat it too.

More predictions next week…..
