CoreOptics Announces Availability of the World’s First 40G Coherent MSA Transponder Module

NUREMBERG, Germany & SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 22, 2010CoreOptics Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of 10/40/100 Gb/s optical networking subsystems, today announced the availability of its 40G transponder module based on the company’s coherent detection technology. CoreOptics transponder module enables the lowest level network cost of any available 40G technology in the market today by enabling Dispersion Compensation Module (DCM) free transmission for over 2000 km on Standard Single Mode Fiber.

Building on the company’s expertise in the development of high capacity Distortion Tolerant optical transponder subsystems, CoreOptics’ 40 Gbit/s 300 pin MSA compliant transponder platform provides market-leading levels of performance and cost effectiveness for the next generation of optical networks. Key features of this product platform are enabled by CoreOptics’ Coherent Detection Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology that offers significantly better performance in CD and PMD impairment mitigation for 40G applications when compared to current modulation schemes incorporating DPSK or DQPSK.

“I am delighted to announce our cooperation with CoreOptics in the market introduction of this disruptive technology for service provider networks deployment globally,” commented Dr. Bernd Schumacher, the head of optical networks business unit at Nokia Siemens Networks. “Our SurPass hiT 7300 Transport platform was designed to meet service providers' distance and capacity needs, while enabling a completely dynamic, flexible and transparent network infrastructure. By incorporating CoreOptics disruptive 40G coherent technology, we have been able to dramatically lower the total investment cost of building and operating transport networks for our customers.”

“As Service providers networks need to scale rapidly to stay ahead of the exponential growth in the video traffic, our OEM customers are in high demand for 40G/100G interfaces that enable them to reduce the cost of their network elements while enabling disruptive value-add services for the end users,” said Hamid Arabzadeh, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO for CoreOptics. “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to enable Nokia Siemens Networks in their development efforts for a truly next generation optical transport platform by providing 40G coherent MSA modules that have set a new industry benchmark for distortion tolerance against CD/PMD impairments, while providing the lowest transmission network latency specification of any other available solution.”

CoreOptics currently offers 10 Gb/s DWDM, 40 Gb/s Single Channel Short Reach and 40/43G DWDM transponder modules. The company’s product portfolio also includes 40G Serializer/De-serializer IC’s, 43 Gb/s Ultra-FEC, 40G Mux/DeMux for 4x10G client signals and Interface Converter supporting SFI-5s, SFI-4, XFI to enable building of next generation Open Tolerant Networks. Key benefits of these product platforms include reduction in first-in CAPEX, by eliminating the need for the conventional Dispersion Compensation Modules (DCMs) and Dual-Stage amplifiers. The OPEX savings include simplification of network planning, installation and provisioning by enabling a complete set of plug-and-play features.
