Flexible, High-Performance MIPS32® 24KEc™ Pro Core to Power Next-Generation Broadband Access Equipment

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — September 23, 2009 — MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NasdaqGS: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores, today announced that Shanghai-based Opulan Technologies Corp., a prominent supplier of fixed-network solutions for the broadband access market, licensed the MIPS32® 24KEcTM Pro Series® processor core. Opulan will leverage the flexible, high-performance 24KEc core for development of broadband access SoCs targeting xDSL and EPON central office and customer premises equipment throughout Asia Pacific.

According to a recent report from research firm Strategy Analytics, the Asia Pacific broadband market ended 2008 with 158 million broadband subscriptions, and will grow 21% in 2009. The report estimates that the market will surpass 394 million subscribers by 2013, with household broadband penetration expected to reach 39% by 2013.

"Our customers face significant time and cost constraints in delivering designs that combine high performance with low power, and we know that MIPS delivers superior functionality and energy-efficiency with an eye on the bottom line," said Cong Ye, vice president of VLSI engineering for Opulan Technologies Corp. "We look forward to extending our successful relationship with MIPS and expanding our presence in Asia Pacific with new and highly-competitive MIPS-BasedTM solutions."

"The Greater China region continues to be MIPS Technologies' fastest growing region, and acknowledged industry leaders like Opulan are key to our success," said Art Swift, vice president of marketing for MIPS Technologies. "We're very pleased that Opulan has reinforced its commitment to MIPS, and that our 24KE core will be a key component of a new generation of broadband access devices."

About MIPS32 24KEc Cores

The MIPS32 24KETM core family leverages the high-performance 24K® microarchitecture while incorporating the MIPS® DSP Application-Specific Extension (ASE), resulting in improved signal processing performance and efficient DSP capability while significantly reducing overall SoC die area, cost and power consumption. 24KE cores are supported by software development tools, the MIPS DSP Library and a third-party DSP applications network.

Pro Series cores allow SoC designers to write their own instruction set extensions and create highly differentiated, highly competitive products. Using standard tools and software, designers can create instruction extensions to significantly increase performance, reduce power consumption, implement critical operations and more.
