Magnum Semiconductor Launches Entry Level Redistribution Encoder Reference Design for Multi-Dwelling-Units

MILPITAS, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Sep 09, 2009 -- Magnum Semiconductor, the leader in professional-grade compression processors, will be launching its first manufacturable reference design to help speed time-to-revenue for its customers, at the IBC 2009 show in Amsterdam. Code-named Llama, this cost-effective HD/SD re-distribution encoder reference design targets the multi-dwelling-unit (MDU) market in high-density population geographies. Based on Magnum's DXT processors, this reference design achieves a perfect balance between high video quality, high channel density and cost.

The DXT processors achieve this feat through the use of Magnum's powerful and proprietary scalable multi-media architecture, which delivers uncompromising video quality, highest channel-density and lowest bit rates. The programmable architecture supports HD and SD resolutions, multiple encoding standards, such as H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC), MPEG-2 and VC-1, as well as multiple functions, such as encoding, transcoding and decoding.

"The DXT-based Llama reference design combines Magnum's silicon and systems expertise into a fully functional reference design which eliminates the design effort around the audio-video portion, freeing up development resources to focus instead on differentiation, at the codec and system-level, thus significantly cutting time-to-market in an increasingly more competitive market place," said Kishan Jainandunsing, Marketing Director, Broadcast Products at Magnum Semiconductor.

The Llama manufacturable reference design is currently shipping to select customers. Current support includes MPEG-2 HD and SD encoding. Support for H.264 HD, SD and low-resolutions for broadcast-to-mobile is planned later in the year. Contact Magnum Semiconductor for pricing.
