FS2 Introduces System Navigator for the New AMD Geode LX 800@0.9W Processor; Debug That Will Enable Next Generation of Mobile Applications

PORTLAND, Ore.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 23, 2005— First Silicon Solutions (FS2(R)) announced today the availability of the FS2 System Navigator, a comprehensive suite of next generation JTAG debug and trace tools for the new AMD Geode(TM) LX 800@0.9W processor(1). The embedded processor offers the highest performance per watt on the market, greater memory bandwidth and the convergence of communications with full-function computing, enabling the next generation of mobile applications.

The AMD Geode(TM) LX 800@0.9W processor includes FS2's On-Chip Instrumentation (OCI(R)). OCI extensions for software debug and system testing jointly developed with AMD and integrated into the processor.

"AMD worked with FS2 to ensure that designers developing new platforms for the AMD Geode(TM) LX 800@0.9W processor have the tools they need to quickly and efficiently create and test solutions," said Erik Salo, director of Geode marketing, Personal Connectivity Solutions Group, AMD.

Rick Leatherman, president of FS2 added, "FS2 has worked hand in hand with AMD to ensure complete continuity between AMD Geode GX and AMD Geode LX processors. OCI features allow for a powerful suite of debug tools with advanced features for both Windows(R) and Linux."

FS2 System Navigator for the AMD Geode(TM) LX 800@0.9W processor key features:

-- Complete debug of the processor environment

-- Testing of the CS5536 I/O companion device

-- Debugging transitions between real and protected mode

-- Ability to set triggers, and create hardware/software breakpoints in System Management Mode (SMM)

-- Integrated GDB source level debugger

-- Works with both Windows(R) and Linux

For the AMD Geode(TM) LX 800@0.9W processor, three FS2 System Navigator tools are now available for hardware testing and integration, BIOS development, and other firmware/software testing. In addition to hardware and software breakpoints, processor run control, and access to all the CPU registers and coprocessor registers, System Navigator has on-chip and off-chip trace features. Trace information is decoded and displayed as executed instructions. Trace can be captured either in on-chip memory (128 x 64-bit frames) or streamed off-chip (64K x 64-bit frames) for collection in the FS2 probe (with off-chip trace option). The trace window displays disassembled instructions interspersed with special messages such as interrupts and exceptions.

FS2 System Navigator is contained in a compact chassis that connects to the target system using a 14-pin debug connector and optional off-chip trace connector. The System Navigator runs on a Windows(R) 2000/XP PC over a USB 2.0 port or optional 10/100 Ethernet connection. The System Navigator OE (original edition) uses a USB 1.1 or IEEE-1284 EPP/ECP high-speed parallel port. A graphical, source level GNU-based GDB debugger provides the user with an intuitive, easy-to-use interface for start-up code, BIOS, and system-level software development.
