ZTE Chooses Freescale’s QorIQ Qonverge B4860 SoC for LTE-Advanced Base Stations

Freescale and ZTE extend collaborative track record to create next wave of 4G broadband wireless macro base stations

BARCELONA, Spain — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 1, 2015 — Building on the successful collaboration that ZTE and Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE: FSL) have already established in creating world-class LTE base station solutions, ZTE has now selected Freescale's QorIQ Qonverge B4860 baseband system-on-chip (SoC) for its next-generation LTE-Advanced macro base stations. The B4860 SoC enables top wireless OEMs and mobile operators to address the demand for increased user bandwidth at lower cost as the industry moves to 4G mobile broadband systems.

ZTE, a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, will use Freescale’s advanced B4860 SoC to build high performance, high capacity base stations with increased user bandwidth at lower cost and power. The B4860 processor is a proven macro cell base station performance leader, providing exceptional throughput and user capacity. The device integrates high performance, fully programmable cores and sophisticated offload acceleration technology, while enabling customer differentiation via flexible support for OEMs’ most innovative algorithms and features. In addition, B4860 customers can dramatically streamline development and speed time to market with a full suite of optimizing, best-in-class development tools.

“As 4G mobile devices continue to proliferate, and demand for wireless connected devices for the Internet of Things drives even greater demand for ubiquitous bandwidth, wireless carriers are increasingly looking to base station OEMs for higher capacity and throughput,” said Tareq Bustami, Digital Networking Vice President, Freescale Semiconductor. “ZTE is again answering this call with its next wave of LTE-Advanced macro base stations, and Freescale is pleased that its world-class B4860 device will play a critical role in ZTE’s delivery of leading-edge 4G base stations."

Freescale’s B4860 product is built on the QorIQ Qonverge platform and combines 64-bit, multi-thread Power Architecture® CPU cores, StarCore digital signal processor technology, a powerful MAPLE-B baseband acceleration platform and DPAA networking acceleration to provide cost-effective, best-in-class performance and connectivity. The B4860 balances this performance with exceptional power efficiency, plus the future-proofing flexibility to support LTE, LTE-Advanced, WCDMA and 3GPP standards.

“Freescale and ZTE have a long and successful track record of creating world-class wireless infrastructure solutions. Our continued collaboration will pave the way for future mobile broadband innovation,” said Mr. Xu Huijun, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Wireless Product Group, ZTE Corporation. “Freescale’s technology allows ZTE to deliver highly advanced LTE-Advanced macro base station solutions that enable wireless operators to lower their total cost of ownership and ease network upgrades.”
