Geomagic Studio 11 Earns Autodesk Inventor Certification

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 19, 2009 Geomagic announced today that Geomagic Studio 11 has earned full certification for use with Autodesk Inventor 2009 and 2010 software under the Autodesk Inventor Certified Applications program. The certification indicates that Geomagic Studio has reached the highest levels of quality and interoperability when working with Autodesk Inventor software.

“The certification of Geomagic Studio gives Autodesk Inventor software users access to a comprehensive solution for transforming 3D scan data into high-quality CAD models,” said Andrew Anagnost, vice president of Design, Engineering and Simulation Products for the Autodesk Manufacturing Industry Group. “Manufacturers can look forward to a seamless connection between Geomagic Studio and Autodesk Inventor to design and build better products in less time.”

Autodesk Inventor is the foundation of the Autodesk solution for Digital Prototyping. It produces an accurate 3D model that enables users to validate the form, fit and function of a design before physically building it. With Autodesk Inventor, users can safely integrate AutoCAD and 3D data into a single digital model to create a digital prototype of the final product, reducing the number of costly physical prototypes.

Best of both worlds

Geomagic Studio enables users to create accurate 3D models and CAD surfaces from point-cloud data – a fundamental data type that is growing in importance for product design, reverse engineering and rapid prototyping as users want to bring physical objects such as clay models or existing parts into the digital realm. By transforming physical assets into digital models that can be used by standard CAD, CAM, CAE and PLM tools, Geomagic Studio closes the loop between the physical world and digital design and manufacturing. Geomagic Studio automatically identifies analytic surfaces (planes, cylinders, cones and spheres) as well as swept and freeform surfaces. Version 11 includes a variety of tools to refine models and bring them into Autodesk Inventor as true parametric models.

“The combination of Autodesk Inventor and Geomagic Studio enables design professionals to easily switch between physical and digital worlds to capitalize on the creativity advantages of each and leverage each to the fullest extent,” says Cathy Hofknecht, vice president of marketing for Geomagic. “The result is greater design freedom, increased productivity, and faster product development time.”
