Extreme DA's Announces Winner of IC Design Survey Give-Away

Santa Clara, Calif. -- February 2, 2009 Extreme DA™ today announced the winner of its integrated circuit (IC) design survey give-away. Extreme DA collects the opinions of design engineers on crucial design issues, so they can influence the development of sign-off timing analysis in future versions of the GoldTime™ product. Everyone who had completed the survey, at http://www.extreme-da.com/survey.html, was entered into the prize drawing. A lucky engineer from Infineon, Germany, was picked at random and was awarded an 8GB Apple iPod Touch. The winner, who asked to remain anonymous, stated," Wow, I have never won in a drawing before! That's great! Thank you very much."

Selected Results of the IC Designer Survey

In describing their current projects, respondents indicated that ASIC designs were the most common being implemented, with processors coming in second:

ASICS: 58% IP: 8%
Processors: 19% Custom and Semi-custom chips: 13%

For design clock speeds, over half were above the frequency of 400 MHz:

800-1600 MHz: 20% 100-400 MHz: 42%
400-800 MHz: 32% Other: 6%

In terms of design size, the most common is designs featuring 5-20 million cells:

20 Mcells and greater: 17% 1-5 Mcells: 28%
5-20 Mcells: 37% Less than 1 Mcell: 18%

Survey respondents also noted the manufacturing process node they were planning to use for their current designs. More than one-third of the designs target process nodes of 45-nanometers and below:

45 nm or below: 36% 90 nm: 17%
70/65 nm: 46% Other: 1%
