Nangate Increases Japan Commitment and Appoints Cubic Micro as Local Representative

SUNNYVALE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—July 7, 2008— Nangate, the leading provider of tools for design-specific digital cell library development, today announced that Cubic Micro has been appointed as its official representative for Japan.

The Cubic Micro offices in Japan will serve as base for providing local sales, marketing and customer support that can further accelerate business in this important market area where some of the worlds most prominent IC vendors are headquartered.

It is a renowned fact that the use of traditional standard-cell libraries - which are designed to fit a large range of applications - is preventing cell-based ICs from reaching their full performance potential.

In older technology nodes the universal remedy against these in-efficiencies was to migrate designs to the next available process technology as fast as possible and to accept a lag on the maximum achievable performance which was pretty much the same for all.

At the 90nm process node and beyond however, classical process scaling offers marginal and diminishing performance gains and a steeply increasing cost curve.

Consequently, alternative avenues that can lead to design optimizations and/or prolong the effective technology lifespan are therefore in very high demand.

The Nangate tool suite with Nangate Design Optimizer as cockpit is designed exactly with this purpose in mind.

The solution automatically generates fully qualified and individually optimized library cells that are dynamically synthesized into the design during a placement aware physical synthesis run.

This automated-full-custom approach to cell-based design has proven extremely effective when it comes to providing an extra level of design optimization in terms of speed, area and power benefits.

Designs that have already been optimized as far as possible with conventional approaches often gain anywhere from 10 to 30% on speed power or area depending on the design and the specific optimization goal.

As such, the Nangate partnership with Cubic Micro will allow a growing community of advanced Japanese customers to tap into a significant and valuable source for additional design optimization that is not easily overlooked.

We are pleased to be representing Nangate and continue their efforts in Japan," said Mr. Richard Nakajima, Cubic Micro Japan President. "Nangates revolutionary new design optimization and standard cell library creation offering is truly unique and the design challenges it resolves and value it brings fits extremely well with the requirements of the highly advanced IC development engineers in our region.

"Cubic Micro and Richard Nakajima has a solid background and an impressive record of prior achievements in the industry," said Jens Andersen, VP of Worldwide Sales and Managing Director of US Operations. "I am confident that this partnership will be instrumental for our ability to effectively address the needs of our Japanese customers', and to drive our next growth phase, he concluded."
