LightWave 3D Group Congratulates “Space Shuttle Atlantis” 2014 Visual Effects Society Winners

Artists rely on LightWave 3D software in the pipeline to deliver stunning visual effects and CG for Kennedy Space Center Special Venue Project

Burbank, CA – February 14, 2014 – Experiencing the Kennedy Space Center’s  “Space Shuttle Atlantis” exhibit for the first time can be captivating, but add to it an immersive experience filled with computer graphics and animation, and you’re heading toward mind-blowing realism.

The creation of the “Space Shuttle Atlantis” project led Daren Ulmer, John Gross, Cedar Connor, and Christian Bloch to recently win the award for “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project” at the 2014 Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards ceremony held on February 12, 2014. LightWave 3D®software, from the LightWave 3D Group, a division of NewTek, Inc., played a key role in the massive production pipeline of the Atlantis project;  it was used for 3D modeling, animation and rendering in the project pipeline.  Additionally, the LightWave 3D Group helped customize the pipeline by compiling a special version of LightWave that improved render times by up to 4X for the custom dome camera used in the project.

The LightWave 3D® Group, a Division of NewTek, Inc., congratulates the many talented artists who were involved in the creation of this epic project, including the LightWave 3D artists who came together to deliver the stunning visuals for the impressive project.

“Few CG projects give audiences such a richly immersive experience,’” said Rob Powers, president, LightWave 3D Group. “The ‘Space Shuttle Atlantis’ project is not only visually stunning; it resonates with viewers in a uniquely personal way. We congratulate the many talented artists who worked on this project and are so pleased that LightWave 3D was able to play a key role in the production of this groundbreaking project.”
