SpringSoft’s Laker Signoff-Driven Custom Layout Flow With Calibre RealTime DRC Wins Best Electronic Design 2011 Award

HSINCHU, Taiwan — (BUSINESS WIRE) — December 22, 2011SpringSoft, Inc., a global supplier of specialized IC design software, today announced that its Laker™ Custom Automation Layout System has received the Best Electronic Design 2011 Award for the second consecutive year from Electronic Design Magazine. This year’s award given jointly to SpringSoft and Mentor Graphics Corporation recognizes advancements in signoff-driven custom layout enabled by interoperability of the Laker software with the Mentor Calibre RealTime platform.

Electronic Design staff and contributing editors selected award winners from the many new technologies, products and standards introduced over the past 12 months. This annual award honors the engineering excellence and innovation in specific editorial ‘beat’ categories and vertical markets. The Laker custom layout with Calibre RealTime solution was chosen by Technology Editor David Maliniak in the EDA category and is highlighted in Electronic Design’s December 8, 2011 issue available online at: http://electronicdesign.com/article/eda/Data-Management-For-EDA-Apps-Sees-Gains-In-2011.aspx.

Specifically, Electronic Design’s award pays tribute to the integration of the Mentor Calibre RealTime platform into the Laker OpenAccess (OA) layout environment that allows instantaneous design rule checking (DRC) for sign-off quality physical verification during layout creation. It combines the industry’s most robust OA-based custom design flow with the same foundry-qualified rule decks and Calibre DRC engine used for foundry sign-off. This unique capability enables Laker users to generate high quality custom layouts in less time and get to foundry sign-off sooner, even at the most advanced technology nodes.

Integration of the Calibre RealTime DRC product into the Laker OA environment is yet another milestone in SpringSoft’s strategy for providing a complete custom design platform that is truly interoperable within multi-vendor design flows. In 2010, the Laker platform received the Best Electronic Design Award for advancements in OA-based interoperability and custom chip digital place-and-route with the introduction of its Laker Custom Row Placer and Laker Custom Digital Router products. This was followed by SpringSoft’s 2011 release of its Laker Advanced Design Platform (ADP) with full OA implementation and ongoing support for interoperable process design kits (iPDKs).

“We are honored that Laker has once again received this prestigious award, and want to thank our co-winners at Mentor Graphics. This award is especially significant because it underscores the critical importance of tool interoperability. The result of our joint efforts is a signoff-driven custom layout flow that speeds physical design and realizes the promise of OpenAccess,” said JT Li, vice president of the Physical Design Product Group at SpringSoft.

SpringSoft’s Laker custom IC design solutions offer the power of controllable automation and unmatched interoperability to achieve superior layout results with less effort for analog, mixed-signal, and custom digital designs. More than 300 companies have adopted the Laker layout system for designs down to 20 nanometers. For information about Laker products, visit: http://www.springsoft.com/products.
