Tape Measure interface for Engineering Project Report this article as Inappropriate to us !!!Login to Reply

I am curious wether or not there is some sort of measuring device that I can interface with linux and program preset distances into linux. What I have decided to do for a collage engineering project is design and build a device that will aide in backup up to a trailer. I want to have a linux box interfaced with a sonar/laser, etc. based measuring device. I would also like to put audible alerts into this setup. For examlpe, I mount the measuring device onto the back of the vehicle. Then I have the linux box tell me how far away the trailer is when it is connected to the vehicle and then save that distance so when I am right on that distance, the linux box will warn me to stop. Also I can add distances into the software that will say for example at 5 feet away "You are 5 feet away" and so on. Does anyone know if there is something available out there? I would greatly appreciate any input.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
