Researching EDA Report this article as Inappropriate to us !!!Login to Reply

Hi,

I am a law postgraduate student in the UK. I am thinking about writing my dissertation on the application of anti-trust rules to new economy industries. In 2002, the FTC reviewed the acquisition by Synopsis of Avant!, giving clearance in the end. I was wondering, what has happened in the EDA market since? Has the interoperability between back-end and front-end tools been maintained? Or are they by now fully integrated? Has Synopsis been able to increase its presence? Or are there strong competitors to Synopsis’ products?

On Synopsis’ website it reads:

Tool interoperability: Synopsys continues to champion our customers' requirements for interoperability throughout the EDA industry. Interoperability is at the heart of Synopsys' Galaxy design and Discovery verification platforms. Through open source standards, tool exchanges with EDA vendors, and initiatives that promote adoption of new standards, Synopsys provides real solutions for EDA tool interoperability.

What is your experience? Does Synopsis allow competing tools to come in at various stages of the design and verification process? Or is the EDA industry as whole moving towards integrated design automation?

Thanks!
