sounds very strong! To speed up the simulation, usually the engine need to shorten the time of model evaluation,element stamping , matrix solving, and reduce reverse time points. For large circuits, non-convergence with a "time step too small" shape is definitely a problem if you use BSIM models.
Model evaluation - they need to solve the same model evaluation equations.
Element stamping - even multi-threding only provide 5%-25% improvement.
Matrix Solving - Can be improved if matrix partition used, but I donot see that much room.
Reversed timepoints - Need good time-step control algorithms.
So I am doubting their 5-10x with SPICE accuracy. The only big improvement may be in matrix solving but as obsered, the matrx solving is not the major performance barrier, the model evaluation is the major barrier.
