| ALaRI - University of Lugano, Switzerland | ALaRI Institute offers Master Programs in Embedded Systems Design with the aim of training specialists in embedded system field.
The ICT environment, the embedded system design in particular, underlines the need for a cross-disciplinary education, involving interdisciplinary fields, like electronic engineering, computer science, team work, complex-project management and market sensitivity.
Such a teaching plan is not generally available at the moment in European universities, where students have usually not been exposed to interdisciplinary approaches.
The ALaRI's goal is to provide an high level, specific profile through Education and Research on the highest added value aspects in the Embedded Systems.
Strength points of the ALaRI program are:
- International top level Faculty
- International Student Class
- Strong connection with the industrial world
- Placement assistance | 4 |

| Universite de Montreal | LASSO: Laboratoire d'Analyse et de Synthèse des Systèmes Ordinés - There is growing interest in the microelectronics industry in the use of formal methods in the design, verification, and test of microelectronics systems. Our group is very well situated in this field as both software and methodology developers, and as educators. | 0 |
| University of California, Berkeley | The Ptolemy Project - The Ptolemy project studies modeling, simulation, and design of concurrent, real-time, embedded systems. The focus is on assembly of concurrent components. The key underlying principle in the project is the use of well-defined models of computation that govern the interaction between components. A major problem area being addressed is the use of heterogeneous mixtures of models of computation. A software system called Ptolemy II is being constructed in Java. | 0 |
| University of Colorado | VLSI/CAD RESEARCH GROUP - The VLSI/CAD group at University of Colorado, Boulder focuses primarily on the development of Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools and algorithms. The research being conducted focuses on three areas: Formal verification of Digital Systems, Synthesis for low power and Development of Binary Decision Diagram (BDD) packages. The group also works closely with faculty from other engineering disciplines and with industry experts. | 4 |

| University of Minnesota | VLSI Digital Signal Processing Laboratory - Digital signal processing (DSP) applications are becoming more prevalent in everyday use. Because of this widespread usage and advances in computer technology, the DSP algorithms themselves are being subjected to more demanding specifications. There is a constant need for designing systems with lower power, higher speed, and lower area. To this end, we are developing new algorithms, architectures, techniques, and design tools. | 1 |
