A key in accessing information is the ability to view or visualize information made available to users, whether on a local workstation, across the organizational LAN, or across the Internet.
It is a simple truism that people need quick and easy access to the information they need to do their job, i.e. A plant maintenance or safety engineer requires print drawings before going to a job site, or better yet, access to those drawings via a laptop while on the job site. A project manager requires access to product plans when determining feasibility or scheduling of manufacturing.
Collaboration across the enterprise and the extended enterprise, requires that all users are able to access, review, and comment on any information being developed within, or outside, the organization, whether the documents originate in the engineering, manufacturing, finance or the executive offices (or from business partners or customers).
Solutions exist that deliver the infrastructure for collaboration, but users cannot participate in most of the processes because they lack the tools to view the large variety of file formats, nor can they attach their comments to these various documents because they lack the tools to annotate or markup the files. Individual and organizations would require licensed copies of each authoring software package in order to view and share all documents, but the cost would be prohibitive (for example, only 10-14% of users in an average enterprise is equipped with technical document
(CAD) authoring software, which means that 85% of the users cannot view these plans because they cannot access the file format - in other words, for every CAD license installed there is the opportunity to sell between 5-20 seats of viewing and markup software).
Substantial savings in time, resources and money can be recognized with AutoVue (cost reductions actually include cost of software licensing, cost of application support and finally, cost of user training - accessing documents via a single interface rather than having to learn multiple applications makes it significantly easier to get users up and running).
AutoVue is capable of displaying a multitude of formats such as 3D CAD, 2D CAD, engineering, raster, vector, hybrid documents, scanned blueprints, office and graphics formats, etc. without requiring the authoring applications. It eliminates the need to own multiple seats of these packages as well as the necessary training to use them.
