Telegent Appoints Ford Tamer as CEO

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 17 — (PRNewswire) — Telegent Systems, the company that makes television mobile, today announced that semiconductor industry veteran Dr. Ford Tamer has joined the company as its chief executive officer.

Tamer brings to Telegent more than twenty years of experience building successful technology businesses.  Most recently, Tamer was partner at Khosla Ventures, where he expanded the firm's cleantech efficiency practice.  Prior to Khosla, Tamer served as senior vice president and general manager of Broadcom's Infrastructure Networking Group, which he grew to $1.2 billion in revenue in five years.  Prior to Broadcom, Tamer was CEO and co-founder of Agere, a networking semiconductor company that was acquired by Lucent before being spun out as Agere Systems, where he served as vice president.  Tamer has also led marketing and international operations for Dazel Corporation, acquired by Hewlett-Packard, and co-founded MegaKnowledge, acquired by IntelliCorp.  Tamer has an M.S. and Ph.D. in engineering from MIT.

Telegent board member Lip-Bu Tan, Chairman of Walden International said, "Ford brings a proven combination of skills and experiences to the company that makes him an ideal leader to build on the market success that Telegent has achieved to date.  Ford's track record of success in building world-class organizations points to a bright future for the company."

“I look forward to leading Telegent through its next phase of growth, working closely with its highly talented founders and team,” said Tamer.  “Mobile entertainment is playing an increasingly important role in handsets and other consumer products.  Telegent’s RF and content delivery expertise, unique distribution channels and understanding of consumer behavior position the company to play a leadership role globally.”

Tamer succeeds co-founder Samuel Sheng who, as previously announced, will resume his position of chief technology officer to focus on developing and expanding Telegent's core technology platforms.

Telegent is the market leader in mobile TV receivers, having shipped more than 80 million units into handsets sold globally since first introducing its technology in mid-2007.
