MIPS Core Used in SPI's New Class of Digital Signal Processor

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer, networking, personal entertainment, communications and business applications, today announced that Stream Processors, Inc. (SPI) has licensed the MIPS32(R) 4KEc(R) processor core for use in its Stream Processor(TM) Architecture.

The MIPS processor manages select SoC and system level functions that support SPI's high-performance DSP co-processor. SPI's platform delivers leading price-performance advantages while simplifying parallel processing. The platform targets a range of demanding digital signal processor (DSP) applications, such as video and image processing.

The synthesizable 4KEc core, a member of the MIPS32 4KE(TM) family, gives SoC designers the flexibility to optimize applications for performance, size or power consumption, reducing system costs. The 4KE core family delivers 1.5 DMIPS/MHz performance in an area as small as 1.0 mm2 in a 0.13-micron process.
