Dune Networks Introduces SPAUI(TM) Interface

SUNNYVALE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—November 6, 2006— Dune Networks, a leading provider of networking devices for broadband networks, including scalable switching fabrics and distributed standards-compliant traffic management solutions, announces today the release of SPAUI - an interface based on the XAUI industry standard. Incorporating several developed extensions, SPAUI combines the benefits of both XAUI and SPI4.2 standards into a single interface supporting MAC/Framer, NPU and Traffic Management requirements.

According to Ofer Iny, Dune's CTO "XAUI is a critical compatibility interface for 10 Gigabit Ethernet, providing the low pin-count and long board trace lengths required to drive down port costs. This inspired us to develop the SPAUI interface that incorporates SPI4.2 features on top of the XAUI standard. For networking applications, SPAUI presents a single unified interface that can interconnect all the major components: NPU, TM, MAC/Framer. Dune is happy to provide the SPAUI specification at no cost to our partners and to the general industry community at large. We hope that in time it will be adopted as a new, de-facto industry standard."

SPAUI Overview

SPAUI supports the requirements of an interface handling MAC/Framer, NPU and Traffic Manager functions. This includes channelization, packet interleaving, and flow control. The interface is implementation-friendly and requires only simple extensions to the standard XAUI. SPAUI fully supports 10Gbps level applications with speedup for accommodating such factors as:

-- Packet headers

-- Full rate 12GE

-- In-band flow control

-- High speed, up to 24Gbps

-- Optional In-band Flow Control

-- Optional Out-of-Band Flow Control
