Central to the Class D reference design is the CS44600 digital amplifier controller and the new CS44130 quad power stage IC. Offered in a thermally enhanced QFN package (9mm x 9mm), the CS44130 eliminates the need for an expensive, bulky heat sink on board designs. The reference design highlights this simplification and showcases a high-power stereo amplifier in less than three square inches of PCB space, making it ideal for consumer electronic products that demand high-quality audio within small product designs, such as digital televisions, home theater systems, shelf systems, desktop speakers, PC sound cards and networked audio systems.
The CS44130 quad amplifier provides up to 60 watts of power and is thermally and electrically self protected. The outputs can be configured as four half-bridge channels, two full-bridge channels or one parallel full-bridge channel.
The CS44130 can achieve system level dynamic range greater than 105 dB, along with excellent distortion performance. The power stage's input logic accepts 2.5 V, 3.3 V as well as 5 V control signals, enabling it to also work with other integrated PWM modulators in Digital TV and audio/video decoder system processors.
Cirrus Logic's PopGuard(TM) technology suppresses pop noise during system start up and eliminates one large external DC blocking capacitor per channel. The complementary output stage of the IC does not require an on-chip charge boost, which eliminates more external components and can reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) that can hinder audio quality.
The CS44600 digital controller IC incorporates patented power-supply rejection feedback technology, which makes single-ended outputs a practical option and compensates for power-supply noise that can affect sound quality. Its integrated sample-rate converter minimizes the effects of clock jitter, enabling high-quality sound and premium performance at the speaker.
Class D digital audio systems help enable smaller, lighter, more efficient products that waste less power than traditional bulkier and heavier analog amplifiers. Cirrus Logic Class D amplifiers can achieve efficiency of 90 percent and provide manufacturers with a great sounding, cost effective solution that meets the demands of today's consumer electronics market.

The CS44130 comes in a space-efficient 48-pin QFN package and is in sample production. In 10,000 quantities the CS44130 is priced starting at $2.78.
