Atmel's Smart RF Multi-channel Transceiver Chosen by Italian Electronics Maker Mipot

Company Offering Both Catalog and OEM Products Using Atmel Transceiver, Device Chosen for Reliable RF Link Performance

SAN JOSE, Calif. and CORMONS, Italy, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Atmel(R) Corporation (NASDAQ: ATML) a global leader in the development and fabrication of advanced semiconductor solutions and electronics supplier Mipot, Cormons, Italy, announced today that Atmel's fully-Integrated multi-channel transceiver has been selected for Mipot's two-way radio frequency applications.

With an interest in reliable short-range signal transmission, RF expert Mipot is offering both standard modules and OEM designs for remote controls, telemetry, fire alarms, social alarms and heating equipment using the Atmel AT86RF211/211S. Mipot's products address requirements in point-to-point links as well as in master/slave configurations.

The AT86RF211/211S was chosen specifically for its super-heterodyne structure with distributed filtering, high selectivity and IIP3 and its integrated high-power amplifier for long-range applications. Mipot is also using a companion Atmel AVR(R) microcontroller. Prototype designs submitted to a certified test laboratory show compliance with the ETSI rules and Federal Communication Commission regulations at first pass. The ETSI is governing the operation of RF transmitter in the un-licensed ISM 868-870 MHz frequency bands.

About the AT86RF211/RF211S

The device is a single-chip transceiver dedicated to low-power wireless applications, for licence-free ISM band operations from 400 MHz to 950 MHz. Its flexibility, robustness and level of integration target telemetry, remote control, alarm, RF modem, automatic meter reading, hand-held terminal and high-tech toy applications. It makes bi-directional communications affordable and allows simplified development of Adaptive Frequency Agility (AFA), Listen Before Transmit (LBT) or FHSS protocols. It is also well-adapted to 2.4V battery powered systems offering power-saving modes, including a stand-alone "wake-up" feature which alerts the associated microcontroller only when a valid inquiry is detected. It is 100 percent compatible with its predecessor, as a direct, in-production replacement. Atmel's latest RF process significantly improves current consumption and phase noise. New features, activated by a dedicated control bit, are available and include a 1 to 10 MHz buffered clock for the companion microcontroller.
