Photron Technologies Receives Confirmation of ASIC Feasibility for Breakthrough Wireless Communications Technology

- Third Party Verification Confirms Concept for Successful Transfer of FPGA Architecture Into ASIC Device

LOS ANGELES, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Photron Technologies Ltd. today reached a redefining technology milestone when it received confirmation that its innovative Ultra Spectral Modulation, (USM) (TM) technology, will successfully transfer from the current FPGA architecture into an ASIC device. The migration of the Digital Signal Processing into an ASIC utilizing the latest 90nm integrated circuit technology, will potentially be the first wireless technology to achieve data transmission rates of 100bps/Hz. Developed by Photron, USM technology provides superior wireless data transmission rates of 5Mbs through a narrow 50Kz channel. Current technologies require channel bandwidths that are 25x larger.

The transfer from FPGA devices to ASIC devices will allow for a substantially greater number of hardware platforms while increasing the mix of viable applications for new high-speed communications with much greater efficiency. In addition to set-top boxes for high speed satellite and terrestrial communications, hand held devices for commercial, industrial, and military applications requiring speeds up to 2 times T1 data rates, will now be possible.
