PEAK Devices, Inc. Announces the Acquisition of the Production Portion of Agere Systems' High Power, Greater Than 10 Watts, RF LDMOS Transistor Portfolio

BOULDER, Colo.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 13, 2005— Peak Devices, Inc., an innovative RF Transistor manufacturer, announces the acquisition of certain assets related to Agere Systems' RF Power LDMOS portfolio, including the production wafers, die, packages, lids and select specialized assembly equipment for the manufacture and support of transistors that produce more than 10 watts of RF Power.

LDMOS (laterally diffused metal oxide semiconductor) is a cutting-edge semiconductor technology which produces exceptional Radio Frequency (RF) performance at frequencies up to 3GHz, relative to traditional silicon device technologies such as Bipolar and VDMOS (vertically diffused metal oxide semiconductor). The LDMOS semiconductor has the added benefit of low-cost packaging because it does not require an insulator between the semiconductor and the package in which it is encapsulated.

"The addition of the LDMOS products, as well as the ability to design new products with high-quality, consistent LDMOS technology was a key strategy of ours. The resulting portfolio will be one of the industry's broadest, covering power levels of 1/4 watt to over 500 watts, and operating voltages of 3v to 50v for bands between 1MHz and 4GHz," commented William McCalpin, chief executive officer of Peak Devices.

"This marks the completion of the sale of Agere's RF Power related assets, which is part of our plan to focus our resources on core technologies that are critical to the long-term success of Agere's business," said Carlos Garcia, vice president of marketing for Agere's Telecom division. "PEAK Devices will have the opportunity to put the equipment and inventory to good use as they look to address the needs of a competitive marketplace."

PEAK Devices designs, manufactures and markets a broad range of Bipolar, MOSFET, and LDMOS, Low Power and High Power RF discrete transistors for use in a variety of market segments, including Wireless, HF/VHF/UHF, 2-Way Communications, FM Broadcast, Television Broadcast, Avionics, Radar, and Military. Peak specializes in extending the life of mature RF transistor product lines by designing and manufacturing drop-in replacement transistors for those no longer supported by other manufacturers. Peak Devices offers customers a viable, cost competitive, long-term alternative to costly redesign as a result of product obsolescence.

PEAK Devices is a privately held company, headquartered in Boulder, Colorado.
