Silicon Image Unveils Low-Cost HDMI Receiver for Mainstream DTVs

LG Designs SiI 9011 Into New DTV Platforms

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Silicon Image, Inc. (NASDAQ: SIMG), a leader in multi-gigabit semiconductor solutions for the secure transmission and storage of rich digital media, today unveiled its SiI 9011(TM) High-Definition Multimedia Interface(TM) (HDMI(TM)) receiver -- the lowest-cost HDMI receiver in the industry. Targeted at mass-market DTVs and now shipping in production to LG Electronics and other leading consumer electronics manufacturers, the SiI 9011 is a fully featured, third-generation HDMI receiver supporting High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), DVD-Audio and HDCP repeater functionality. LG has designed the SiI 9011 HDMI receiver into a number of new 2005 plasma and LCD TV models.

The SiI 9011 is a very cost-effective solution for DTV manufacturers incorporating HDMI-HDCP capability in their mainstream 20- to 36-inch DTVs to comply with this mandate, and we expect it to broaden HDMI adoption. As a result, we expect the SiI 9011 to be the HDMI solution for mainstream DTV platforms in 2005."

Fully HDMI-compliant, the SiI 9011 supports bandwidths up to 165 MHz and the widest range of video resolutions including 1080p and UXGA. To improve manufacturers' time to market and reduce design time, register sets for the SiI 9011 are backward compatible with Silicon Image's prior-generation SiI 9021, SiI 9031 and SiI 9993 HDMI receivers. The SiI 9011 supports the DVD-Audio standard, including 7.1-surround audio at 96 kHz and stereo audio at 192 kHz. The SiI 9011 features a flexible digital output capable of interfacing in 12-, 24- and 48-bit modes, enabling a direct connection to a wide variety of video processors including the latest generation offering support for 1080p resolutions. It also supports HDCP repeater functionality for applications such as media receiver set-top boxes and A/V receivers.

The SiI 9011's built-in HDCP decryption engine secures the digital link for transmission of valuable high-definition (HD) video and audio. Each SiI 9011 is pre-programmed with unique HDCP keys, providing the highest level of security while reducing manufacturing complexity and cost. A new built-in HDCP self-test engine simplifies manufacturing testing.

Pricing and Availability

The SiI 9011 is currently shipping in production to multiple consumer electronics manufacturers and is available in two packages: a 128-pin LQFP with 0.4mm pin pitch and a 144-pin TQFP with 0.5mm pin pitch. The SiI 9011 is priced at $6.95 in 10K quantities for the 128-pin LQFP package.
