TS16949-certified devices simplify auto electronic system communication, deliver excellent protection performance and reduce overall system costsDETROIT—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Oct. 19, 2004— Continuing to expand its automotive device portfolio to provide vehicle manufacturers with the industry's broadest selection of power management ICs and discrete devices, ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ONNN) today introduced its first Local Interconnect Network (LIN) transceivers, Controller Area Network (CAN) transceiver and EMI/ESD protection circuits for LIN/CAN Transceivers.
The NCV7380, NCV7382 and the NCV7361 LIN transceivers and the NCV7356 single-wire CAN transceiver are designed to conform to industry standards and have the added value of providing enhanced ESD performance. In an effort to provide designers additional options for meeting increasing stringent ESD and EMI standards, ON Semiconductor also introduced the NUP2105L CAN Bus Protector and the NUP1105L LIN Bus Protector. These devices improve the reliability of transceiver modules by providing noise immunity levels above and beyond that inherent in the bus system configuration.
"Increasingly, vehicle manufacturers are looking to simplify their supply chains by sourcing the majority of their automotive IC content from a smaller number of focused and reliable vendors," said Sri Jandhyala, ON Semiconductor director of automotive market development. "ON Semiconductor -- with our broad, well-established automotive portfolio, our outstanding reputation for delivery and customer service and our appropriately-targeted roadmap of portfolio expansion, is ideally positioned to consistently make the auto makers' short-lists of key vendors."
LIN and CAN Transceivers
The NCV7356 is a cost-effective Single Wire CAN Transceiver that has been designed to meet the GMW 3089 2.3 specification and supports many additional features including under-voltage lockout, timeout for faulty blocked input signals, output blanking time in case of bus ringing and a very low sleep mode current. The device is currently offered in an SOIC 14 lead fused package and is priced at $0.78 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities. Plans are in place to introduce an SOIC 8 lead fused package option.
The NCV7380 is a cost-effective LIN physical layer device for a single wire data link application where high-speed data rates are not required. The NCV7380 was designed in accordance to the physical layer definition of the LIN Protocol Specification, Rev. 1.3 and 2.0. With very low current consumption, this device is ideal for ECU applications with hard standby current requirements, where no sleep/wake up control from the microprocessor is necessary. It is offered in an SOIC 8 lead package and is priced at $0.52 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities.
The NCV7382 is a cost-effective LIN physical layer device for a single wire data link application where high-speed data rates are not required. The NCV7382 was designed to meet the physical layer definition of the LIN Protocol Specification, Rev. 1.3 and 2.0. It is ideal for ECU applications with hard standby current requirements. An included wake-up function detects incoming dominant bus messages and enables the module voltage regulator. It is offered in an SOIC 8 lead package and is priced at $0.58 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities.
The NCV7361A is a 5V/50mA Voltage Regulator with Integrated LIN Transceiver. This combination makes it possible for designers to develop simple, powerful and less expensive LIN bus slave nodes. The NCV7361A LIN bus slave node transceiver is optimized for low current consumption and offers wake up via the LIN Bus. The NCV7361A was designed in accordance with the LIN Protocol Specification, Rev. 1.3 and 2.0. It is offered in an SOIC 8 lead package and is priced at $0.85 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities.
LIN and CAN Protection Devices
The new NUP2105L CAN bus protector is a 27 volt (V) dual bi-directional transient voltage suppressor (TVS) designed to protect the transceiver in high-speed and fault tolerant CAN networks from EMI and ESD. The NUP1105L LIN Bus Protector is a 27 V single bi-directional TVS designed to protect the transceiver in LIN or single wire CAN networks from EMI and ESD.
"ON Semiconductors latest LIN and CAN protection devices are the only devices on the market today that offer a fully integrated solution based on an avalanche TVS technology for dual wire CAN dataline protection," said Mamoon Rashid, ON Semiconductor director of marketing for Small Signal Products. "This integration reduces both component count and board space usage which helps designers reduce overall system cost while improving system reliability."
The NUP2105L and NUP1105L absorb the energy of transient voltage events to prevent damage to the CAN or LIN transceiver. The bi-directional configuration of the diodes prevents inadvertent clamping of normal dataline signals due to common mode voltage offset in systems with long cable lengths.
The low capacitance of the NUP2105L makes it ideal for systems with data transmission speeds up to 1Mbits/sec. This device complies with the ISO 11898-2 physical layer specification and exceeds established industry standards for ESD and EMI immunity. Ultimately, it provides the system designer with a low-cost option for improving system reliability and meeting stringent EMI requirements, particularly in mission-critical CAN network applications such as braking, engine and transmission control.
The NUP1105L TVS can be used to protect single dataline CAN and LIN communications systems. This device increases the EMI and ESD immunity levels beyond the SAE J2411 and ISO 7637-3 specifications, which increases the reliability of network in harsh automotive and industrial environments. Distortion-free transmission of the data is provided by the small anode-to-anode capacitance of only 30 pF. The NUP1105L is a low-cost solution when compared to using multiple discrete diodes and TVS's for this application.
The NUP2105L is offered in a SOT-23 package and price at $0.09 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities. The NUP1105L is also offered in a SOT-23 package and priced at $0.05 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities.
