National Semiconductor's Dual-Mode Operational Amplifier Combines High Performance and Power Savings for Critical Sensor Applications

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: NSM) today launched the lowest supply current, dual power mode operational amplifier available on the market. National's LMV422 has a unique power-saving mode that allows customers to reduce power consumption while maintaining an active circuit. This allows for faster turn-on times in smoke detectors and other sensor interface applications where reaction time is critical.

Differentiating Features

National's LMV422 is a dual, rail-to-rail operational amplifier. With an external control pin, the LMV422 can be switched between a very low-power (2 microamps per channel) and low-bandwidth (27KHz) mode to a full-power (400 microamps per channel) wide-bandwidth (8MHz) mode. These combinations reduce power consumption, maintain necessary charges on the coupling capacitors and shorten the time needed to stabilize the signal after switching from low-power to high-power mode. Additionally, the input bias of the LMV422 is very low at 5pA, and has a supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5V and a common mode rejection ratio (CMRR) of 85dB.
