Demo features USB dock with USB Power Delivery upstream ports charging up to 100W based on Fresco Logic's single chip hub controller supporting USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery (PD) 2.0
SAN FRANCISCO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 18, 2015 — Fresco Logic, a global fabless semiconductor company that develops and markets high speed connectivity ICs and solutions for the computer and mobile electronics market, today announced it will demonstrate its all-in-one USB docking solution that provides 4K video, Gigabit Ethernet and audio in addition to USB Type-C and USB Standard-A ports, as well as support for full-profile USB Power Delivery 2.0 (PD) charging functionality at Intel Developers Forum, August 18-20, San Francisco. The USB docking solution is an ideal companion for products featuring USB Type-C, such as the Nokia N1, Apple MacBook, and Google Chromebook Pixel 2.
The key component of this USB dock is Fresco Logic’s flagship FL5002 silicon that integrates a SuperSpeed USB Hub controller with USB Type-C capabilities and includes a fully programmable multi-port PD 2.0 controller, all in a single chip. The dock has an upstream USB Type-C port that can provide super-fast charging (up to 100 Watts) for notebooks, tablets and mobile phones. In addition, the demo features electronically marked USB Type-C cables that employ Fresco Logic’s e-Marker chip, FL7001, the world’s smallest e-Marker silicon: a 1.5mm2 wafer level chip scale package (WLCSP).
“Fresco Logic’s demonstration illustrates the innovation and flexibility that the new USB technologies provide to the market place,” said Jeff Ravencraft, USB-IF president and COO. “These technologies are providing a single source for delivering audio, video, performance and power for every conceivable platform and device over the new slim connecter with reversible orientation and cable direction.”
“The USB Type-C standard is rapidly gaining momentum in the marketplace because of its unmatched capabilities. This demonstration represents Fresco Logic’s commitment to being technology leaders and to helping our customers deliver first-to-market complete docking solutions,” said Robert McVay, CTO of Fresco Logic. “Just as with USB 3.0, we look forward to working closely with our partners and the USB ecosystem to enable the successful deployment of the new USB technologies into the market.”
