Envista’s New Product Release Pioneers Breakthrough Features for Infrastructure Project Coordination

September 14, 2009 -- Envista Corporation today introduced Envista 2009 Release 2 of their web-based software for infrastructure project coordination. The map-based system facilitates the planning process for construction and maintenance work in and under roadways. This new version unveils breakthrough features generated from customer feedback, including Permit View, Event Coordination, Collaboration Ready Maps, Custom Spatial Query, and Multipoint Map Sketching. The Envista coordination solution optimizes project timing and detects project conflicts among towns, cities, utilities and highway agencies. The efficiencies gained through better coordination result in fewer street cuts in newly paved streets and less disruption for commuters and neighborhoods during the construction season.

Features Reshaping Project Coordination

Envista 2009 Release 2 introduces more than 50 game-changing features for managers and stakeholders involved in infrastructure project coordination. Envista’s new Permit View feature allows users to import and view permits on a map, and share permit information with all departments and utilities. Permit information is essential to the work of many city and town departments and utilities, yet access is often limited. With Envista, users can track permits by status, applicant, applicant organization, type, location, date, and other variables. Email notifications and permit reports with embedded maps can be sent to contacts both inside and outside your organization.
The innovative Event Coordination feature provides Envista users with a powerful tool to integrate events with roadway and utility project schedules. From parades to road races, civic events present challenges for public works and utilities when it comes to scheduling maintenance and construction work. Event information can be easily added to Envista and viewed on a web-based map along with projects. The system automatically flags any conflicts and affected parties of a scheduled event can be notified via email with an embedded map of the event location.

Envista also unveiled Collaboration-Ready Maps enabling users to generate emails and reports with embedded maps. Communications are faster and simpler using maps, so Envista takes this benefit one step further by allowing users to embed maps in reports and email notifications to internal and external email contacts. Action items such as project conflicts can now be shown in reports with each conflict shown in a separate map, or a map can be printed showing all conflicts.

Making Complex Projects Easy to View and Manage

The new Custom Spatial Query feature enables users to define a custom area of interest--such as a political district, zoning area, or highway district--and then to view the projects only in that area. Users can answer ad hoc questions about projects, as well as being able to save a special area of interest for ongoing communication. For example, users can define and save “Ward 1”, “Ward 2” and so on to display vital project information to the mayor, city councilors, and others.

 Another major enhancement is Envista’s Multipoint Map Sketching. Not all infrastructure projects can be interpreted as single points on a map, or street routes, or intersecting streets. Users can now use map sketching tools to add more complex, multipoint projects to the web-based map. These projects may look like closed or open polygon shapes, or a collection of lines such as service extensions from a main pipeline. Once a project is sketched, Envista automatically geo-locates the project and checks it for conflicts with other projects.
