EEMBC Launches Independent Benchmark Testing Service

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif., April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium today unveiled an independent benchmark testing service intended to allow a wider range of companies to benefit from EEMBC's embedded processor benchmark software.

The new service, offered by the EEMBC Technology Center (ETC) in Sunnyvale, Calif., allows any company to make EEMBC benchmark testing an integral part of its product development and release process -- without tying up internal engineering resources. Using ETC likewise ensures that benchmark runs are performed in strict adherence to EEMBC rules -- and backed by the credibility and experience of the consortium's internal technology center.

EEMBC benchmarks scores are useful to designers of a wide range of systems as an approximation of embedded processor performance and the energy "cost" of this performance in automotive, digital entertainment, office automation, telecom, and other embedded systems. The scores are also widely used by processor vendors in the chip development process.

"In making this testing service available, we're responding to the needs of potential and actual licensees and members for a reliable and trustworthy resource that can supplement their own internal engineering staffs, which often simply lack the time to do as much thorough processor benchmarking as they'd like," said EEMBC Director of Technology Shay Gal-On. ETC's benchmark testing services are distinct from the score certification services offered to EEMBC members only. These new services include porting and running the benchmarks, performance analysis, and, for members only, preparation of platforms for benchmark score certification.
