Hyperion (Nasdaq: HYSL), the global leader in Business Performance Management software, has the fastest and most intuitive advanced analytics, as well as the only master data management solution offered by a Business Performance Management company.
Mentor Graphics, which has been using Hyperion Essbase since 1998, has migrated to the newest version of the OLAP engine, Hyperion Essbase 7X, to leverage enhanced calculation power, scalability and strength in query retrieval for applications in financial planning, consolidation, human resources, as well as sales and marketing.
"Hyperion Essbase 7X provides the analytical power we need for the integration of data, with fast load and calculation times," said Jan-Willem Beldman, team lead for analytical applications and data quality at Mentor Graphics. "Within finance alone, we've already seen dramatically increased retrieval times in some of our very complex P&L spreadsheets. They've gone from seven minutes to seven seconds."
Other anticipated benefits include reduced storage requirements, faster availability of information, reduced total cost of ownership and the ability to expand hierarchy sizes and add dimensions.
"Prior to Hyperion Essbase 7X, we were faced with the challenge that our data cubes grew too large to manage -- upward of 128 gigabytes," Beldman said. "The aggregate storage capabilities of Hyperion Essbase 7X should dramatically reduce data volumes and calculation times, resulting in speedier analysis for our business users."
Not only is the management of data important to Beldman, but also the synchronization and ensured consistency of such data. For that reason Mentor Graphics uses Hyperion MDM Server to manage the hierarchical data within its transactional systems that run business operations, as well as reporting and analytics systems that provide information about the business.
Implementing Hyperion MDM Server allowed Mentor Graphics to streamline its change management process for updating its multiple systems' master data in unison. After the initial roll-out in sales hierarchy management, the company expanded the technology to its cost center, statutory and management reporting, budgeting and forecasting product hierarchies.
"Today, we use Hyperion MDM Server as the central server to publish master data across heterogeneous systems from our multidimensional database, SAP, Callidus and Oracle systems," Beldman said. "Hyperion MDM Server has enabled us to achieve consistency of our data and improve version control of various enterprise hierarchies."
