RMI’s Superscalar Multi-core XLP Processor Family Gains Support from Wind River

CUPERTINO, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 19, 2009 At Interop 2009, RMI Corporation, a leading provider of high-performance processors for communication and media rich applications announced today that Wind River plans to support RMI’s newest generation Multi-core processor family, the XLP® Processor. Announced earlier today, XLP is the industry’s highest performing processor core and Multi-core processor family driving unmatched system and performance scalability.

The superscalar XLP Processor family drives performance levels at greater than 2.0 GHz and offers a 3x performance per watt improvement over previous generation processors. RMI’s latest offering will bring about the most advanced and most highly integrated multi-core processor in the industry while maintaining the innovative multi-threading capabilities of RMI’s existing processor families. The XLP Processor family, much like the XLR® and XLS® Processors, combined with Wind River’s Platform for Network Equipment; Linux Edition and VxWorks 6.6 products will include out-of-the-box board support packages for RMI’s XLP Processor™. Combined with Wind River On-Chip Debugging JTAG support, these products will offer a comprehensive solution for the XLR Processor, XLS Processor™ and the XLP Processor family and are optimized for wireless, SMB, SOHO, SME and enterprise networking, wireless infrastructure and service provider OEM equipment markets.

“Wind River is making significant investments in its software portfolio in order to ease the adoption of multicore technologies in the embedded market,” said Roger Williams, vice president, Global Alliances, Wind River. “Wind River has worked closely with RMI over the years to tightly integrate our runtime and tools technologies with RMI's market leading multicore solutions, and will continue this emphasis as part of the evolution of the XLP processor to provide even greater performance and scalability benefits to our joint customers.”

The XLP Processor is targeted at expanding the overall opportunity for RMI’s Multi-core product offerings and enables a broad set of applications specific features for customer use in security appliances, L4-L7 switching, storage networking, 3G/4G wireless, small business networks, as well as several new untapped markets. Early development work with the world’s leading storage, networking, telecom, wireless and enterprise customers has been in place for over 2 years.
