GCT Semiconductor Announces Sampling of the Industry's First Mobile WiMAX IEEE 802.16e Wave 2 Compliant 2.5 GHz Monolithic Single-Chip Solution

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—September 25, 2007— GCT Semiconductor, a leading supplier of 2.3 GHz Wibro Wave1 devices to the Korean market, today announced the industry's first mobile WiMAX 2.5 GHz Wave 2 single-chip, GDM7205, which integrates RF, MAC and PHY, all into one monolithic die. GDM7205 is compliant with WiMAX Forum standards and is designed to support portable, nomadic and fixed applications.

Based on GCT's industry-proven CMOS RF technologies, GDM7205 implements MIMO, and all PHY and MAC features required for WiMAX Forum(TM) Wave 2 Certification. This compact solution, offers a highly integrated, low-power transceiver which minimizes the number of external RF front-end components. It also includes a mobile WiMAX baseband with high performance dual-processors, and an impressive array of peripherals for connectivity. GDM7205 is designed to satisfy the high processing demands of multimedia data processing and wireless connectivity and to increase battery life for longest run time.

"Our new solution demonstrates GCT's commitment as a leader in the expanding WiMAX market by developing high performance, compact, and low-power solutions," commented Dr. Kyeongho Lee, President and CEO of GCT Semiconductor. "We are pleased to be the first to offer a complete mobile WiMAX 2.5 GHz Wave 2 solution on a single chip. This product is ideal to meet the small size and power requirement of modules, minicards and USB dongles and will also help enable portable and cost-effective Wave 2 WiMAX devices such as mobile handsets, smart phones, MIDs and UMPCs."

GDM7205 complies with IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMAX and WiMAX Forum(TM) Wave 2 certification requirements, and supports seamless handover across different cell sectors. The product is provided in a 12mmx12mm 289-pin BGA package. Samples are now being provided to beta customer. Production is expected in the second quarter of 2008.
