Cypress Introduces World's First Industrial Grade High-Speed USB 2.0 Microcontroller; New Offering Supports Temperature Range of -40 Degrees C to +105 Degrees C for Industrial, Automotive and Military Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Oct. 19, 2005— Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY), the market leader in USB, today introduced the world's first industrial temperature grade high-speed USB 2.0 programmable microcontroller. Cypress is now offering its EZ-USB FX2LP(TM) controller with a temperature rating of -40 degrees C to +105 degrees C, providing an ideal solution for implementing high-speed USB in industrial, automotive and military applications.

The EZ-USB FX2LP device is a fully integrated peripheral controller, including an 8051 microprocessor, a serial interface engine, a high-speed USB 2.0 transceiver, on-chip RAM and FIFO and a general programmable interface. Its unique architecture handles all basic USB functions, enabling the host system's microprocessor to focus on application-specific functions and ensuring sustained high-performance data transfer rates. Featuring a data rate of 480 Mbps, 16 Kbytes of on-chip memory, and up to 40 programmable I/Os, Cypress's EZ-USB FX2LP solution provides world-class design flexibility. The FX2 LP devices also slash dynamic and standby power consumption by nearly 50 percent versus alternative offerings.

The new product is well-suited for telematics, navigation systems and infotainment units in automobiles. Military applications include radio infrastructure equipment and hand-held radios, including Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) systems. The devices are also ideal for industrial instrumentation, measurement and automation systems.

The new industrial-temperature EZ-USB FX2LP (CY7C68013A) devices are USB-IF certified and in full production. The device is offered in 100- and 128-pin TQFP and 56-pin QFN and SSOP packages.
