Flarion Technologies Selects EVE's Hardware-Assisted Verification Platform for Design of Next-Generation Wireless Internet Chipset; ZeBu Used for Regression Testing of the Flarion System

SAN JOSE, Calif., and PALAISEAU, France—(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 3, 2005— Flarion Technologies today said that it employed Emulation and Verification Engineering's (EVE) hardware-assisted verification platform to deliver its latest high-speed FLASH-OFDM (R) mobile broadband chipset. EVE's ZeBu -- or Zero Bugs -- was used for regression testing of Flarion's latest generation Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) that will soon be tested in silicon.

The Flarion System is an innovative technology designed for the delivery of advanced Internet Protocol (IP) data, voice and broadcast services in the mobile environment.

"Flarion selected ZeBu after evaluating several hardware emulation systems and found it was best suited for the regression testing that Flarion does throughout the design project to tapeout," remarks Frank Lane, senior director of product architecture at Flarion Technologies. "Our design demands are rigorous and we expect the same from our design tools."

ZeBu in the Flarion Design Environment

Using an industry standard VDHL simulator, Flarion co-simulates the testbench in Linux and the chip in ZeBu, achieving 20X performance improvement using ZeBu over straight simulation. Flarion also prototypes its ASIC in a Xilinx Virtex 2 field programmable gate array (FPGA). ZeBu fits between the simulator and prototype, giving the design team visibility inside the FPGA while accelerating the process.

"EVE is pleased to be working with Flarion, a company known for its high-capacity, high-performance mobile broadband technology," Lauro Rizzatti, vice president of worldwide marketing and general manager of EVE-USA. "Its design team fully utilized ZeBu and its superior capabilities in the design of its next-generation chipset."
