Future Fab International Explores the Economics and Challenges Of The Semiconductor Industry

SAN FRANCISCO—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Jan. 18, 2005— The semiconductor manufacturing industry is at a crossroads as the increasing complexity of future technology requires further investment in R&D and state-of-the-art manufacturing technology to maintain a competitive advantage, according to the latest issue of Future Fab International, published by Montgomery Research, Inc.

Issue 18 of Future Fab International presents leading-edge thinking on topics such as what to do about 45nm node technologies; the perils of, and possible solutions to, APC; the latest in lead-free packaging processes; and the benefits of and a user perspective of open architecture. This issue also takes an in-depth look into the Semiconductor Technology Roadmap, from its origins to what the future has in store for the road-mapping process. Future Fab also explores the challenges and research directions in the development of the strategic partnership between the U.S. government and the semiconductor industry.

Special topic focus is covered by John Schmitz, COO of manufacturing technology at SEMATECH, who presents a snapshot of the most important conclusions reached at the SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative Symposium held in Austin, Texas, in October. JoAnne Feeney of Punk, Zeigler & Co. presents her views and analysis in a white paper about the economic imperatives behind semiconductor manufacturing progress. And Gartner Dataquest's Bob Johnson and Dean Freeman discuss the profitability challenges facing the industry today.

Future Fab is a thought leadership publication that includes unique promotional platforms highlighting best-of-breed suppliers and solution providers amid discussions of key industry issues. The publication features technical white papers that include a wide range of viewpoints to help create a balanced forum for decision makers.

This issue and its accompanying Web site ( www.future-fab.com) explore a variety of topics including design for manufacturability, fab operations, manufacturing productivity, lithography, equipment and materials, wafer processing, metrology/failure analysis and final manufacturing.

"Future Fab is a publication written by industry experts for the industry experts," says Nikki Wood, publisher of Future Fab. "We continue in our quest to offer an unrivaled platform on which to educate the device manufacturers and semiconductor manufacturing industry as a whole."

The report is printed and distributed to leaders throughout the industry, with support from more than two dozen solution providers such as Advantest, Blue Control Technologies, ILS Technologies, Ismeca, MEMC, PDF Solutions, Poco Graphite, Praxair, Swagelok and Wonderware.
