NI AWR Design Environment Featured in Upcoming Workshops

EL SEGUNDO, CA, Aug. 24, 2016  -- NI AWR Design Environment will be showcased this fall in two hands-on workshops for modern digital radio design and filter design. The workshops take place in Southern California at NI’s El Segundo office, formerly AWR Corporation headquarters.

From Bits to Waves: Building a Modern Digital Radio in One Day | Sept. 9

Dr. David Ricketts of North Carolina State University will present a fun and interactive workshop in which attendees will use NI AWR software to learn the basic theory of modern digital radios, as well as the RF circuits and systems used to build them. After an introductory session on digital radios, participants will select an RF building block to design and build. There will be short mini-classes (run in parallel) on each component: double-balanced mixer, microstrip filter, low-noise amplifier, power amplifier, balun, and more. In the afternoon, the designs will be transferred to a printed circuit board (PCB) via a simple “PCB in a bag” method and each component will be built and tested using a simple vector signal analyzer (VNA). The workshop will conclude with a full radio test of at transmitter and receiver.

Advanced Filter Design Workshop | Sept. 13

Daniel Swanson, Jr. will present a one-day workshop focusing on detailed filter design examples using NI AWR Design Environment in conjunction with SW Filter Design software. In the morning session attendees will design a microstrip combline filter and in the afternoon a narrow-band, high Q-cavity combline filter. The same design strategy, based on Dishal’s method and port tuning, will be used for both filters. This is a “no math” approach to filter design that requires only simple algebra and no knowledge of filter synthesis techniques.
